Some useful adds and other confusing stuff :)
Your friendly neighbourhood shammy Exo here with a nice quick blog update (been a while) and some useful information. Life has once again taken an increase in work load, being a busy uni student, and this term may see me being online a little less frequently dependant on how much i have to do. Hopefully i should be able to make appearances here and there but deadlines may have some effect on this.
I'm mainly updating over 2 very useful and quick applications i found called Rankwatch and Gearscore...
Rankwatch is a fantastic mod i experienced through a random dungeon group that displays messages to you and other group members when you are using spells of a lower rank then is available at your current level. It politely informs you of this, without sounding harsh or abusive and also only sends the message once as not to bother you if you are purpsoely using lower ranked spells.
Gearscore is another great application that gives you a breakdown of a players gear displaying it in an easy to use grid just by typing /gs
Both these apps have been very useful and i highly recommend them to anyone

The Idea behind GS is a good one, i have to admit that..but the kiddies have got hold of it and made it their new god. Makes me shout all sorts of profanities when i see in trade "LFM UK heroic need 5k GS or ignore".

I tried rankwatch, but it didn't do anything on a Lemmings raid. I then did a few pugs and woops, turned out I was spamming strangers
something I wasn't comfy with.
It's a fun addon to quickly check yourself but it can quickly send a lot of messages to someone.
BTW amending your note about people using lower ranked spells Exo, they removed the benefit behind using a lower ranked spell so (with exception of one warlock spell, iirc) nobody should use lower ranked spells anyway

That's true. The main point of that addon would be that people get a message when lvling so that they don't have to check out the trainer to see if they have new ranks for their spells avalabe to them. But I would just check my trainer every two lvl's or so (most of the time you have at least one rank upgrade then).
Also I can inmagine it that telling it to other people in a group (specially random) can be annoying and sounding rude. Also, if I remember correctly, the other party members are seeing it as well, wich can be used to flame someone (mainly tank and healer would be the victom of that, because of their role importance). Not sure if it was this addon perticulary who did that.

As RankWatch says, there is also a bug that sometimes a spell on the spellbar doesnt improve
so it has its uses... But it is a bit talkative. That can be configured though.

Gearscore have to be the worst addon so far, I can mix differet set items to get 5.2K score, even tho my dps would be rubbish.

Any sort of gear score addon or website is just a guide really. They arent clever enough to correctly assess your gear in comparison to your spec and play-style (yet).
