Minimizing (25-man) disconnects/lag
I found this post on WoW-ladies and I thought it would be useful for the Lemmings! There's some pointers in here on improving latency which I think are good to know even if you don't have any lag
Which is why I put this in our knowledge-database, not in the forum. Copied with permission!
*This is mainly for those who are suffering disconnects since 3.2.X*
(Summarizing this post in the WoW Forums who's source was this ElitistJerks post.)
1) Remove Recount-
Disable Recount Syncing (/recount synch) or disable Recount
(Ami: This was my issue, I switched to Skada and practically all my 25-man lag disappeared.)
2) Disable Blizzard Combat Log-
Right-click your combat log tab > "Self" > "What happened to me" > "Everything" > Click on each of those, and then click through each of the sub-tabs and disable EVERYTHING. Make it so that NOTHING appears on your combat log.
(Ami: If you run a combat log record for uploading to World of Logs, this will make it not work, so either have someone else do it or don't do this step, however, this is reported to be one of the biggest fixes, so up to you.)
3) Find out what addons from others are spamming you- FuBar addon SpamFu
This amazing addon allows you to monitor addon message traffic from your raid members. What you want to do is to MINIMIZE this traffic. Many addons have secret "whisper" programs that we cannot see. They whisper other players in the raid/party for all sorts of information. The problem is, many of these mods do the whispering extremely inefficiently, thus leading to massive, MASSIVE spamming of your client with data.
Main one to look for is Gearscore. However, the author says he's improved the way it shares info and to make sure everyone updates to fix it. Several people mention banning Gearscore from being on during guild raids.
(Be careful: some addons like LibHealComm(X) have to do it, other addons like X-Perl and Carbonite and GearScore don't.)
4) Latency Improvment- Leatrix Latency Fix
Lowers your latency by changing how your computer handles information acknowledgments. It's amazing. This is NOT an addon, it is a modification to your computer itself.
Install it, try it for yourself over a period of a few days. If you aren't happy, remove it. Make up your own mind. It won't break anything. Most people report a noticeable improvement in button response times, as well as smoother mob movement patterns.
(Ami: I went from ~150ms to ~30ms. Oceanic or overseas players see more significant improvements as shown in the comments section.)

Handy post
Less latency = Good
I'm going to give Skada a try and downloaded the Latency Fix. And following the Neti doctrine: The combatlog stays!!
It started out small...keep getting smaller [Matt The Electrician]

I use Skada anyway, and its certainly more stream-lined than Recount. Good tip with the combatlog! I can honestly say I've never clicked on that tab a single time, so I'll happily disable its contents.

I did the latency fix and my ping went from about 150ms to less than 50ms.
Dont let that fool you though .. Im not a technical expert, but WOW isnt a game that really notices small changes in ms like this. I think as long as you are sub 200ms you probably wont even notice the difference.
My performance issues (which arent bad really, so I cannot moan) generally are down to addons and the combatlog. i.e not so much latency and my connection, but more my gfx card cracking under the weight and my cpu struggling to process everything. I say that like I have a problem ... I dont really. The only problem area for me in game is Dalaran.

It's actually a quite big difference, but you won't notice much of it unless you pvp=P
I'm using an addon for it myself, and it went from 240 to 48ms=D

I thought the main thing to get from this article was the way of troubleshooting and looking at the connections made by others with a critical eye/SpamFu

That latency fix isn't going to help much if you suffer from low FPS - in fact, it'll likely make it worse.
I don't really get any latency issues, just awful FPS due to my creaky old PC. Having said that, I do often DC just after WoW has loaded (actually, it's not a DC, it's a total freeze of the game, which sometimes even freezes my PC).
@ Ill : pvp? whats pvp?

@ Ill : pvp? whats pvp?
nothing worse than random D/Cs ... they are sooo annoying. If you remember, when I first started raiding with Lemmings I suffered from them a huge amount and ended up changing back to my old ISP. The problem went away.
