2009/08/17 Lemmings defeat Thorim
In yet another great run the Lemmings have defeated our second Keeper of Ulduar, Thorim. The raid had a very rough start because several people in the original line-up couldn't play, and it took a while to find replacements. We had learned a lot from our previous runs and already on the first try we managed to reach the last phase and even got the boss to 17%. But actually defeating him proved to be very hard. Try after try we kept wiping either just before or just after the transition to the actual fight with Thorim himself. But then, on the last try of the night, our brave heroes gave their all, and defeated the powerful giant.
Congratulations to all involved!

this is what I liked about this fight - two very distinct events going on at the same time: both groups having to be on top of what they are doing to achieve the same ultimate goal. Go back and visit BWL and you will see how far along Blizzard have come with designing instance events.

That's what I really like

That's what I really like about it too, it requires trust on the other half of the group more than any other fight in the game (that I've seen). The only thing it comes close to, for me, is the Shade of Aran fight that requires everyone to play musical chairs

Nice healing report for the Guantlet Daz
Don't know what to say about the tanking part int he Arena. The positioning Matzy described worked for us. I stayed a little bit of the center, so the whirlwinds wouldn't hit others. But it was chaos
There were so many adds it was pretty much impossible to pull/aggro them all, also cuz I had to stay near the middle. Might have been my inexperience as tank though too. I made a targetting macro for the Champions, cuz they had to be pulled of the others asap. And I needed it too, because of the many (different) adds. For the rest I used as many AoE spells as I could, to pull as many adds as possible. And sometimes I even managed to taunt some adds other than Champions of the others when I had some spare time
Really good job all and nice

great run!
I fear more wipes with Thorim should be expected as its a tough old fight.
From the Arena perspective, having ranged DPS near centre, the healers at a bit of range, and the tank basically near centre, pulling champions away from raidmembers, seemed to do the trick. It doesnt really fit any tactics I have read, verbatim - seems to be a mix of them, but it helped with making life easier on the tank I reckon, because for the most part, those mobs not aggroed by tank went towards ranged in the centre. I think we were just trying to get the balance between too much DPS and aggro, compared to too little DPS and being overwhelmed. Thats what I felt anyway, because generally the stuns seemed to no longer be a problem .. the raid before we were dying in next to no time because of it. Its actually not that healing intensive when we are on top of the adds and early on. It just gradually gets worse the longer we are up
I would love a detailed explanation of the Gauntlet if someone there could go through it?

Once you're inside you will turn right and face two groups with 3 mobs in each of them, one healer and two melee mobs.
Once you've engaged the first group, the first mini-boss will raise one of his hands, with a fiery glow.
If he raise his left hand, you have to stay on the right side of the hallway, and you have to stay to the left if he raise his right hand.
Once you start attacking the first mini-boss, the tank need to turn him away from the others, and the healer should stay close to the boss to avoid a charge he does from time to time. At 30% or so, he buff himself with an aura which reduce damage taken by 50% and deal damage to attackers(2K or so per hit).
When the mini-boss is dead, the door behind him will open, you will meet two groups there too, and one or two extra mobs if you don't get to the boss fast enough after the last mob is dead. It's only two NPC's in those groups, and they die fast.
Second mini-boss: It can be done with different tactics, but we ended up with Daz running past the boss and towards the wall behind him, While Elm tanked the boss at the top of the stair.
The mini-boss got two abilities, which are an AoE attack, and that does 4-8K (Can't remember=P), and he put a debuff on one of the players there, and that player is unable to move.
You have to run away from that person, since he will do 11K AoE damage to players close to him.
Once that mini-boss is dead, another door will open.
When you enter the room, you will see two large circles in the middle of the room (floor), avoid this, and run on the sides instead.
Get to Thorim, attack him, then jump down and join the others!
Very well done guys! Sorry

Sorry for my dropout, but my internet issues through the day meant I had to do real life work (damn shame, as I'd rather have been in Ulduar)

A tip from a healing point
Submitted by Daz on Tue, 18/08/2009 - 22:51.
A tip from a healing point of view, was to keep up with the tank at all times, dont bubble too early cos you got aggro, tank will soon pull it back (save the bubble for second mini boss AoE if needed), on the second boss i used my Red Bull wings and kept the trinket for the mana boost thingy, but used that running round the circles after second boss kill, and i spammed small heals onto all 4 of us throughout, with beacon of light on the tank, weather they needed it or not, it kept the haste thing up

It was a good tactic to pull first mob and run onto second mob, it saved the few vital seconds that was needed so many times before, but 2 warriors and a rogue all seemed to have aggro at the same time (sorry Vic) spamming the big heals between the two dps feeds the tank just fine, but i was'nt fast enough
Would of been nice to have Vic see the final stage, seeing as he put his all into the night like all of us, and i'm kicking myself , but it's one of those things i guess, again soz to Vic for failing him, but a good result in the end, and i'm sure it wont be our last kill on him,
