Angry Raid Leader does rawr

I had a good laugh at Angry Raid Leader.com, the anonymous blog of a raid leader from somewhere in the world, who rants about raid and guild related subjects. They're very snarky and full of swearwords, so be warned (unless you have some kind of filter) Wink For those of you that do check it out, on the right some flowers to lighten your spirits beforehand Wink

BTW I can't say much of it is really recognizable for us - but I read a lot about guilds and online communities through other WoW groups and the atmosphere the guy describes seems to be typical raid guild Wink (Glad I'm not in one Tongue )

Though I have to admit I empathise with the writer with his How to leave your guild... rant because I recognize some of the frustration from the poster Wink

Next time more flowers Wink

I love this site, as I can understand the frustrations from his viewpoint, but think he's totally playing it up for the funny side of things

Yep, I'm with the two of you.

The post called Are you a burned out raider had me in stitches (and I don't mean the guy in Darkshire).

Agree there with you Gar, we should remember his point of view is different from ours, and is amazed as we ourselves are sometimes about why someone applies for your guild.

I see his blog in a more stand up comedian type of way, and detect no mean spiritness really. Also, he is not shy to make fun of himself too, that's a good indication I think.

But there are some good points also in his blogs I feel. His criticism of group balance on the 5 - 10 -25 setup seems valid to me. As is his sound advice to NOT STAND IN TEH FIRE !!!! Laughing out loud

(not in any way associated with an unnamed player at an unnamed boss in an not to be named instance.... Smile) )

Until he really drops the ball, his blog is in my daily visits. Smile

Parvaneh's picture

I tend to think that those people who stays in guilds like that are no better than those who tries to lead them.

What i mean by that is: My general idea of hardcore raiders is that they really, really want that new awsome epic, and they're willing to sacrifice much for it. Another prejudice of hardcore gamers is that they're relatively young people /people with a parttime job or no job at all, often with no life either...i know its a bit harsh - but who can put 6 days a week into gaming if youre not in college or one without a life?

I'll be the first to admit that i had no life/very little life when i was a hardcore raider...Just happay i got out of it Wink

Actually I talked with Neti

AdminWilgje's picture

Actually I talked with Neti about people in these guilds, and I believe the most people that join raid guilds are the kind of people who pay that sacrifice knowingly, or are such thick-skinned people that they a) don't mind the yelling that much b) actually "force" their raid leader to yell because they just ignore pointers. Force because these raidleaders want quick pushes through content, and as such know they have to take the people they can find, as long as those people have the gear level required. Puzzled

Scary place

Unbelievable that people in those guilds actually want to play like this. The way those raidleaders treat the other raiders is just disgusting. Doubt any serious raiding guild would be able to function for a longer period like that.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly,

Keirin's picture

Yeah, my thoughts exactly, if someone told us we healed like a 5 dollar uhm..lady of the night. I'd gquit in a heartbeat! I wonder if the people that are in a guild like this get desensitized by all the yelling.

I can't imagine anyone would be willing to put themselves through this!

haha i giggled at this

Parvaneh's picture

haha i giggled at this bit:

"Leading a raid prepares you to teach kindergarden.[...]The funny part is. This gets through to them. When they screw up and I chew them out, I think they just screw up again to spite me. B*******"

I giggled because i once had a raidleader who yelled at us - he were this really annoying guy who didn't care to speak nicely to us - especially not when things were going in a way he didn't intend for it to go. So whenever he yelled at us - yelling his usual "FOOOOCUUUUS, c'mon (insert random sworeword) stop being lazy" it actually caused me to heal worse.
Whenever we had a really friendly raidleader who never ever said bad stuff, but always were polite I healed so much I could.

In Lemmings we don't have that problem, pretty much because everyone is friendly - and more focussed on having a good time, instead of progressing. But it is still rather funny to read about the problems in a raiding guild. I can understand some of it, I can even recognize it from my former guilds. All those guilds could learn *a lot* from Lemmings management.

But thanks for the link - it's rather entertaining, but if he were my kid i'd wash his mouth with soap Wink

Yeah it's really funny that the guy realises that and admits it, even though he doesn't seem to care one bit either way on how harsh he treats his raidminions Wink
